The Punnett Square is a diagram that is used to predict an outcome of a particular breeding or cross experiment. Biologist use the Punnett Square to determine the probability of the offspring having a certain genotype.
This particular Punnett Square shows what a monohybrid crossing looks like. Monohybrid means that it's predicting the phenotype of one certain gene. Of course, Punnett Squares can be used for more than just predicting a monohybrid appearance. Dihybrid traits can be predicted in the same way, just with a bigger Punnett Square. |
